Enjoy A Plethora Of Our Favorite Sandwiches In Dallas

by Steven Doyle

There is little to make a sandwich wonderful other than  fantastic bread, well thought out seasonings and spreads, and a filling that should be unsurpassed. When deciding a list of our favorites, it seemed a more daunting task than originally thought. So many more came to mind as the list was settled.

With all the heartache of selecting which can stand alone as the very best, we humbly submit in no particular order sandwiches that we enjoy. Tell us your favorites and we will run out today and sample one. Continue reading

Adelmo’s Celebrating 25 Years

by Steven Doyle

Tucked neat and tidy on Cole Avenue you might spy Adelmo’s, the cute Tuscan hide-away that is perfectly romantic and sultry.

Adelmo’s has survived the many faces of the Dallas restaurant scene and is pretty much today as it was 25 years ago when Adelmo Banchetti first opened his doors. Here you will find the obligatory Chianti served up with dreamy dishes such as Osso Bucco and a variety of house-made pastas. Each day you will discover a new chef’s menu hand-scrawled outside the front door listing off the day’s specials drawn from fresh ingredients just delivered. There are several choices for dessert included, and we recommend the warm bread pudding with a brandy caramel sauce. A Trip To Square Burger In McKinney

by Steven Doyle

What do you do with a chef who graduated from the California Culinary Academy, worked at Spago, Abacus, Five Sixty and numerous other spots of similar caliber? Some might say have the chef move to McKinney and open a café that sells  great burgers and beer. That is the case with chef Craig Brundege who operates Square Burger in McKinney.

Square Burger has been running strong for over four years offering their power-house line up of great burgers and daily specials that will often include fresh fish and pastas. But what drives us 30 miles up I75 to downtown McKinney from the inner-workings of Dallas are those haunting burgers.   Continue reading

Cuquita’s Cures The Tex Mex Craving

by Steven Doyle

One of our most favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in the Dallas area has always been Cuquita’s in Farmers Branch which is located on Josey at Valley View Lane. The unencumbered restaurant has garnered much praise from Texas Monthly and was named one of the top 5 Mexican restaurants in the state. That is large praise, but there are a few reasons why the restaurant is so good.

This restaurant is full of freshness. Each day house-made flour and corn tortillas are hand pressed and made alongside tamales which are made with the house masa needed for the tortillas. One bite of the tortillas and you will be hooked. They are sold to go by the dozen, and you will want to pick up a few for dinner or breakfast tacos at home. They are like no other.       Continue reading

Bunnies And Springtime Refresh The Plate

DSC01110by Steven Doyle

As the Easter holiday approaches we are reminded about renewal of the planet, fresh Spring daisies and bluebonnets, little baby chicks and bouncy bunny rabbits.  It is also a refreshing time for new restaurant menus as they roll out seasonal dishes to reflect the new found bounty. We are now seeing ramps, morels and even fiddlehead ferns gracing our plates. This is a fantastic time of year.

We would love to make a list of our favorite deviled eggs, which are everywhere now and a definite taste we want at Easter.  You will see a new version daily at Parigi on Oak Lawn. We also enjoy the deviled eggs at Nick and Sams where there are three versions on the same platter, but particularly enjoy the caviar topped eggs.  We adore Sissy’s version as well.     Continue reading

Our Favorite Pescaderia Mambo Seafood

by Steven Doyle

Mambo Seafood opened on Northwest Highway just a few years back, and is located across the street from Pappas BBQ. For those unfamiliar with the Texas based casual dining chain, they are originally located in the Houston area and have since spread to other areas across Texas. You will typically find the restaurant nestled into primarily Hispanic neighborhoods as this seems to be their target market.  As any Texan who is grocery savvy knows, this does not preclude anyone from joining in the fiesta.        Continue reading
