Dallas Enchilada All Star Line Up

by Steven Doyle

Growing up in Dallas it would be difficult to avoid the enchilada. The Tex-Mex beauties delicately filled, rolled and sauced for your dining pleasure. And what great memories most Texans have as children growing up noshing on the humble enchilada each Wednesday in our public schools, the same day that El Fenix  offers their inexpensive deal on enchiladas. Perhaps some lay in puddles of grease, but we know how to sop that up with a tortillas for an extra side-car treat.

This past week we craved enchiladas and sought them out with vengeance. This began as our five favorites, but as we started in on them the list grew. Enjoy these enchiladas are in no particular order. Be sure to let us know your favorites.    Continue reading

Time Is Ticking For Toys For Tots

toys4tots3

by Crave Staff

Every year, Toys for Tots provides toys for children who otherwise wouldn’t have much this holiday season. The need is great. But with a little effort, you can make a big difference in a child’s life.  With this year’s deadline for donations coming up on us quickly, and being short on toys this year, help is still needed.  Please visit the Toys For Tots website for the locations still receiving donations.  Be nimble, be quick and bring some cheer to a child’s Christmas.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October – December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

The First Thanksgiving Menu

by Steven Doyle

As our day of Thanksgiving fast approaches we wanted to look back and see why and how our Pilgrim ancestors celebrated their feast.

What began in 1620 with a band of 102 religious separatists seeking a new home and the lure of the New World’s prosperity, the Pilgrims settled into their new life style, which proved harsh throughout their first brutal Cape Cod winter.   Continue reading

Our Favorite Pescaderia: Mambo Seafood

by Steven Doyle

Mambo Seafood opened on Northwest Highway just a few years back, and is located across the street from Pappas BBQ. For those unfamiliar with the Texas based casual dining chain, they are originally located in the Houston area and have since spread to other areas across Texas. You will typically find the restaurant nestled into primarily Hispanic neighborhoods as this seems to be their target market.  As any Texan who is grocery savvy knows, this does not preclude anyone from joining in the fiesta.        Continue reading

Pollo Regio Much Anyone?

DSC04230by Steven Doyle

When a fast food chain opens up we generally do not give notice, or care for that matter. But Pollo Regio has been invading Dallas, with plenty more on their way, and they deserve at the very least a golf clap. The restaurant is quick, tasty and for many – nearby.

Regio started its restaurant out of something similar to a food truck in Austin, selling a delicious pollo asado that is marinated then grilled for a pretty exquisite flavor. The basics of charro beans, rice and grilled onions gives this Regio a simplistic menu that is hard to beat. The chicken is served with a pack of corn tortillas which makes each meal a feast.   Continue reading

Rare White Cacao Available In Dallas Area

by Steven Doyle

Dan Pearson stumbled upon an unusual tree while working in Peru supplying miners with food. Pearson didn’t know it at the time, but what he found was the legendary white cacao bean called Pure Nacional. The bean lacks the typical bitterness found in most strains of the bean, and has an intense floral flavor.      Continue reading
