“Malt” to Open In Old Truluck’s Addison Location

Trulucks1by Steven Doyle

Way back in October we broke the news that Truluck’s was shuttering in Addison after a long and successful run in that space. The reason was not due to lack of business, the successful micro-chain is growing. It was more about an expensive lease renewal.

Today we learn that the new tenants that have been remodeling the very large space will name the casual concept “Malt”. We have little information on what the restaurant will offer at this time, but we heard that it will not be extremely heavy on alcohol. With a name like malt we were hoping to see a scotch bar go in, or the very least a high end brew pub which that section of Dallas is sorely lacking.    Continue reading →

Flay In Dallas Stops By Stampede 66 For A Pyles Reunion

pylesby Steven Doyle

Bobby Flay was in town this weekend to sign his 12th cookbook, Barbecue Addiction. While in town Flay paid a visit to his old pal Stephan Pyles at his new restaurant Stampede 66. You may recall that Flay worked for Pyles at Routh Street Café and Baby Routh under then exec chef Kevin Rathbun (brother of Kent). The staging was just before Flay opened his own restaurant, Mesa Grill in New York.         Continue reading →

Acme F&B To Become Beer Garden

acme2by Steven Doyle

Acme F&B released their wunderkind chef Norman Grimm as they begin to re-concept the brand into a more casual beer-centric bar with food.  I confirmed the news with Brooke Humphries this morning and she said that she wanted to get back to her roots and do what they do best.

The space will indeed be a beer garden. “We have 36 taps, a great patio,” Humphries wrote to us, “we will have good food with a lower price point. I’m not a sea bass person, I am more a Waygu burger bacon jam and redneck cheddar or flatbread kinda bar person, ya know?”  Continue reading →

Bolsa Closes For Lunch Service, Mercado Beefs Up Menu

bolsamercadoby Steven Doyle

On craveRADIO this past weekend we broke the story that Bolsa was closing for lunch each day, only to beef up the menu next door at Bolsa Mercado. The Mercado is cheffed by Andrew Bell, and he has added burgers (beef, veggie and turkey), more sandwiches, pastas and salads to that menu in an effort to utilize the massive kitchen at that space.              Continue reading →

Pop Tarts Popping Up Everywhere

pop tartby Steven Doyle

Remember that time when I said jokingly “I do not want to live in a world with Pop Tart flavored vodka”. Time for me to make a deal with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for an exit strategy to Mars, because the geniuses who make Corn Flakes and Eggo Waffles released their own line of vodka.

I do not suspect we will be finding the brand of vodka competing for well space with the likes of our beloved Aylesbury Duck from Jason Kosmas in local bars such as Standard Pour or Smyth, but the spirit will definitely move some to offer a S’Mores martini using the Kellogg’s product.  Continue reading →

The Davies Brothers Are 3 of 1

3of1aby Erica Guajardo

In families sometimes, artistic talents are pushed with in a group of siblings so that a bond can develop which will help the progression of the group grow.   Since I have started writing, I have come across a number of families which push their artistic talents together as group, so that each member can develop a name for themselves.  But one particular band of brothers whom stood out to me was the Davies Brothers.  Joshua, Isaac, and Jerrod Davies are a group of brothers, which are more commonly known as 3of1.  What makes them different compared to the other groups that I have come across is that they have developed a business aspect towards art which allow them to tackle any project which is thrown their way.  Continue reading →
